Cash N Missy
2006 World Champion
Jr. Calf Roping
Jerome Schneeberger filled in for injured trainer Jeff Carney
and rode Cash N Missy to a World Championmship.
Junior Tie Down Roping Eight-time NFR qualifier Jerome
Schneeberger is no stranger to the AQHA World Show. The 30-year-old native of Ponca City, Okla., has been showing
roping horses for nearly seven years now, and picked up his second World Championship aboard Cash Missy, a
6-year-old mare owned by Larry Little, Bells, Texas.
Schneeberger wasn't supposed to be riding the horse, but when her trainer, Jeff Carney,
broke his hand, he called on Schneeberger to show her.
"Jeff asked me if I could fill in, and I was happy to," Schneeberger said.
"I rode her one time before the preliminaries the other day and she felt great. I knew we had a pretty good
chance."
The pair scored a 222.5 to take the top spot over Matataris Rapper, a mare
by Smart Little Rapper out of Matataris Girl by Right This Minnick, and owned by Donovan Fontenot and shown by Cody
Little, who scored a 221.5.
"I tell ya, I'd like to go back and watch it on video, but I bet that's
one of the best horses that's been here this week," Schneeberger said of his mount. "I was just lucky to get to
ride her."
Schneeberger enjoys the break from the fast-paced rodeo runs he's used
to.
"It's a lot different - it's all about speed in the rodeos," Schneeberger
explained about performance roping versus timed roping. "I enjoy coming to these because you can kinda set the
whole run up and you're roping for your horse instead of yourself."
Being so close to Oklahoma City makes the World Show an easy day trip for
him, and he says he'd like to continue showing when his rodeo career isn't taking up so much of his time. The
slower schedule would certainly give him more time with his family, which includes his wife, Haley, and their two
sons, Jaden, 3, and Jace, 2. The Schneeberger family shares its trials and triumphs on blog for
www.prorodeo.com.
"I enjoy coming here every year," Schneeberger said. "I've been fortunate
to win here before, and I hope to keep coming back. When I slow down in the rodeo, I'd like to become a little bit
more involved with the AQHA." -KC
